President's Update

A Message from IWF Chicago President, Mary Lee Montague

Dear IWF Chicago Friends,

The holiday season is upon us and with the help of member Kate Coleman the IWF Chicago forum celebrated the season in style at her beautiful Lake Shore Drive home on December 7th. Lots of fun photos below.

As our fiscal year ends, please renew your membership. Invoices were sent via email on November 28. Final due date is January 10.   The Board and Committees are very excited about the coming year initiatives and having you be an active part of 2018 is key to our Forum’s success!

To help with New Year resolutions we are kicking off the first of a quarterly professional development series “Be Your Best.” DB Wienke, LinkedIn Coach, will provide a fabulous platform to ‘build bridges’ with her presentation “8 Strategies You Probably Aren’t Using for LinkedIn Success”.   (side note: I hired DB as my own LinkedIn Coach several months ago and had my eyes opened to ALL LinkedIn can do!)

The Programs Committee is feverishly planning member events in 2018 including the very popular Dine Arounds. The date is set for Wednesday, April 11. Would you like to host 8-10 members in your home? It is yet another way to personally ‘build bridges’ and always a memorable experience for all!?

Getting involved with your local forum is also a great way to expand your network. I invite all of you to give some thought to throwing your hat into the ring so the Nominating Committee knows your personal interest in becoming a board member. Self-nomination is highly recommended! Past and current board members all agree that it is a very rewarding experience and an outstanding way to make a difference. Timing of the nominating process will be announced in January.

On the IWF Global front, registration is now open for the World Cornerstone Conference being held in Melbourne on May 2-4, 2018.   This is a great opportunity to surround yourself with amazing women from around the globe while getting inspired, motivated, and checking off a visit to Australia from your bucket list.

And in the spirit of the very hospitable Aussies our very own IWF Chicago/Australia member, Eileen Henderson, will be hosting a reception for the Chicago Forum on April 26 in Sydney!

I personally and professionally wish to give a special shout out to Glatz Management Services!  Chris and Michelle are a BIG part of IWF Chicago success on a daily basis.  For the last four years IWF Chicago has engaged Glatz as our “backbone”.  With pride and grace they run our day to day and back office as well as provide meaningful best practices to every discussion.  Please take a moment to thank each of them…they are true partners in our growing success. See below profiles of both these lovely women.

The IWF Chicago momentum is strong as we head in to the new year. I look forward to continuing my work with the executive committee and the board of directors to make 2018 a most exciting and valuable year for IWF Chicago members.   A toast to all of us!

Membership Criteria and Process

The Membership Committee is continuously reviewing member prospects and endorsing candidates for the IWF Chicago board's approval.  To assist you as you as you consider nominating prospective members, please review the Membership Criteria document.  This is the framework we currently use as our guide. We are looking to make some adjustments and improvements in the future but we encourage you to use these guidelnes as you consider potential candidates.

If you know of a qualified prospect and would like to sponsor her, please complete the online sponsor form. It just takes a few minutes - the form is found under the Candidates tab or click hereA prospective member must have two member sponsors before the prospect will be requested to complete the membership application. Once all three required items are received (the two sponsor forms and the candidate application), the membership committee will review and present the candidate to the IWF Chicago board.

If you have questions about the membership process, please contact Michelle at the admin office: or the IWF Chicago Membership Chair Amy Dordek Dolinsky or Chair Elect Collete English Dixon

Holiday Party 2017

Despite the blustery December weather, we had a sold-out gathering for this year's annual Holiday Celebration.  A special thank you to our host, Kate Markin Coleman, for offering up her beautiful home for the evening.  The rooms were filled with laughter and conversation-- which are the hallmark of all IWF Chicago gatherings.

Mary Lee Montague, our President, took a moment to congratulate Joyce Simon on her recent retirement from the Shedd Aquarium and to welcome our new members in attenance: Amanda Signorelli from TechWeek, Esther Barron from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Jessica Herrala from Walsh Construction, Susan Poser from University of Illinois Chicago, and Bets Lillo from AbbVie.  In keeping with our "Building Bridges" theme, Amy Dordek Dolinsky publicly thanked Daphne Dolan for connecting her to a possible board role, which is a perfect example of the power of women helping women.

News You Can Use from the Admin Office

Meet the IWF Chicago Administrators from Glatz Management Services

   Chris Glatz
 President, Glatz Management Services, Inc.

Tell us about your "Day" job...
As the founder of the Association Management company, I work closely with the IWF leadership team utilizing my 25+ years of experience in areas of Board governance and strategic goal setting.  I love when I can bring best practices to the table and have a positive impact on the organization.

Three Favorites...

  • Spending time with my family; it is my favorite thing to do. I treasure every family moment, especially with my husband Fred and my daughter Katlyn.

  • Traveling! Anywhere – locally or overseas. Life is short – let’s go!

  • Watching my taped shows either with wine after a long day or on a Saturday morning in my PJ’s with coffee.

One Surprise...
Glatz Management Services (GMS) is a female owned and all female employed organization (not intentionally, the ladies have just been the most qualified!). A perfect complement to the IWF! And, one other surprise…your Account Executive, Michelle Fowler, is my sister!

   Michelle Fowler
Account Executive, Glatz Management Services, Inc.

Tell us about your "Day" job...
Since 2014 I have had the privilege to work closely with the volunteers who make up IWF Chicago’s Board of Directors and all the various committee members.  From updating the website, sending out communications to the entire membership and planning all the behind scene details to implement a meeting or event, I keep very busy!  If you ever have a question about your IWF membership — I am the person to call!

Three Favorites...

  • Traveling with my family and friends – I get a ‘pep in my step’ when I know I have a trip right around the corner.

  • Following family traditions with my daughter Samantha (21) and my son Michael (18). A favorite tradition is vacationing in our run-down 1960’s cabin on a small lake in Wisconsin. No internet. No TV. No xBox. Board games, fishing, and conversation. Life is Good!

  • Checking out new restaurants and breweries with my husband of 26 years, Steve. You can try something new every day in the Chicagoland area and never repeat!

 One Surprise...

Look closely at the Glatz Management Services logo…it is a duck! The logo is a tribute to our father, Donald May. This man was a WWII vet and a truck driver for 45 years with a CB handle name of “Duck”.  He signed notes and letters with his ‘duck signature’. The GMS logo represents dedicated service and strong work ethic.  Two very important traits that GMS brings to our clients.

Australia Pre and Post Tour Options

The IWF Chicago members are very fortunate to have a member that has dual membership in Chicago and in Australia - the host location of the 2018 World Cornerstone Conference!  Eileen Henderson, member of the Chicago and Australia forums, has graciously done a bit of 'down under' homework on our behalf.

For those that will be arriving a few days prior to the May 2nd conference start, Eileen will be hosting a networking reception in Sydney on April 26.  Eileen has also worked with her local travel expert to draft a few pre and post conference tour options.   Please take a look at the options and let the travel agent know if you may be interested in any of these tour options.  Once we get a pulse for the interest in options, the agent will move forward with making travel plans.
